Campaign Statement – Celebration of Islamic New Year without our Son, Abdulrahman, A Gentle and Loving Person
As we celebrate the start of the Islamic New Year, we send our prayers and best wishes to our son, Abdulrahman, and to all your families.
As you may or may not know, Muslims across the world celebrate and commemorate the new Islamic year (1442). However, our son is still far away from us. A human being with a gentle and loving soul who is facing the most difficult, challenging and harshest of prison environments. For the full list of prison violations Abdulrahman has endured, please visit:
We pray that this injustice that has happened to our vulnerable son, suffering from mental illness, NEVER happens to any more kids.
Our son who is a kind, compassionate and soft-spoken individual, always loved taking care of others despite his suffering and challenges. Phebe Palmer, Abdulrahman’s friend whom he met at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) best summarizes his gentle and loving soul, and this whole case:
“Abdul was a dear friend of mine. We met in CAMH, and continued our friendship right up until I was admitted again. When I was discharged, I tried to find him to talk to him, but I couldn’t get ahold of him. I saw on the news what had happened. Abdul is a wonderful man who needs help, not to be forgotten in a cell. He comforted me in my darkest hour, and I wish I could find a way to help him. Abdul is not a monster, he is a human, and was a child when this all happened. I’ve been following his story very closely, and the most important thing I can see about his case is that this man needs to be near his family. The Canadian Government needs to fight harder to get our citizen back. Abdul needs our support. To Abdul‘s family: you are in my thoughts every day, as is your son. This is not justice, this is corruption.”
We all miss him. Our hearts are broken for him! Abdulrahman was gentle with everyone he met and animals as seen in this video of him playing with a cat:
As we start this new year, this is short prayer we wish for our beloved victim son, Abdulrahman, and your beloved kids as well:
May God bless and keep our kids safe always
May their wishes all come true
May the Lord be with them down every road they roam.
And may sunshine and protection surround them all.
And may they grow to be proud, dignified and true.
May they always know the truth and see the light surrounding them all
May they always be courageous
Stand upright and be strong
May their heart always be joyful
May good fortune be with them, may their guiding light be strong
May they always be free and our son come back home!
O Canada! O Canada!
O Canada! We stand on guard for thee,
O Canada! We stand on guard for thee.
